Strategy Management

Decades of Experience

I started off as a developer (mainframe to client-server, to cloud and services, and business intelligence), database design, then moved into enterprise architecture (in an attempt to manage complexity, integration, and cost), and then into business architecture (attempting to contextualize technology use, expanding into business capabilities), and at the moment I am working at the strategy level – business and technology.

My career over the past three decades can be seen as a road searching for context of the work that I have been doing. The reason for this search is at each of these levels the basic question of what we were trying to achieve was either not answered, or answered with inherent contradictions, or answered vaguely. I had a little bit of a jump on my millennial colleagues, who are more interested in “meaning” and "purpose" that the boomers.

As it turned out, the non-existent and/or conflicting answers for the applications, architectures, and priorities were because in spite of a lot of talk about goals and strategies, these guiding elements exist only in conceptual form in many organizations. There is little in terms of understanding what it is, what it can do, or how to “do” strategy.

Today, I am helping organizations “do” strategy. To help it figure out what it wants to achieve, how to make it happen, and helping to focus the attention to ensure it happens.

My Goal

The success of your organization or team, through helping you focus, execute, and adjust.

Strategy management is often accessible only to large organizations, but small and medium-sized organizations obviously benefit from it. From a general economic and societal health perspective it is very important to enable smaller and medium organizations be successful, and focus their work. A collection of smaller organizations deliver a more robust and agile economy, and they can an important factor to counteract the deleterious effects of the concentration of wealth.

My goal is to help you figure out what you want to achieve, help you figure out how to make it happen, and help you focus the attention on the things that will get you to success.
